We have three kids in our household, and the daily tasks of just simply picking up, and taking care of things can quickly get overwhelming when you have to do it for yourself, the house, and three kids.
About a year ago I started to give my kids little tasks that needed to do on their own. Simple things like making the bed, clean up, and that sort of thing without having to watch them complete.
I knew I could ask them to do these things, and then after a few moments could come back and check on them to see if they had done.

Most of the time it works, sometimes it didn’t. And yes, sometimes they complained about doing whatever it was they were asked to do.
I quickly learned that if I incentivized them or offered an award they grumbled less.
Yes, this idea or system was really not as consistent as it could be.
And as time went on, I had to add other things or reminders like making sure they brushed teeth, fed the dog, you get the idea.
I wanted to make our lives a little smoother, ahem…. mine. So I came up with this visual chore chart that anyone can use. You simply just print it off, slip into a page protector and wah-lah, instant chore chart that you can use over and over again.
Using the Printable Chore Chart
My kids are still very young, so things like mowing the yard or doing laundry start to finish by the load are still too complicated for them to do all alone.
I wanted this chore chart to be easy enough for them to remember what to do in addition to what they should also be doing every day.
So things like making the bed, brushing, hair and teeth, finishing homework, cleaning up, resetting rooms, and clothes for the day was what I was going for. And I decided that this could be represented by a picture or an icon.
So I got to work on creating a picture based chore chart. That way it could be a daily visual, they can check it off, and see their progress.
At the end of the day or a week, I can reward them with whatever incentive.
Incentives for the Chore Chart
I think it is important to choose an incentive ahead of time. Something that is known, so that each child has something they can look forward to or expect at the of completing something or meeting a goal.
For our house, I bought a roll of tickets. The kind of tickets that you can get at any major box store that is primarily used for raffles.
And then throughout the day, the kids earn tickets. Sometimes tickets are given randomly, for random acts of kindness, good deeds, extra help when not asked, or expected. And then tickets are also given at the end of the day for completed days worth of chores.
You can change this up by tickets amounts to the day or however you see fit.
The kind of tickets ( I purchased them from the Dollar Tree) and they have there name on it. Each day, the write their names on the back of the tickets and add them to their jar as they earn them.
On Friday we do a drawing. Mostly it is one drawing, sometimes two if it was a really good week to increase their chances of winning.
They get to decide how many tickets from their jars that they want to add into a large bucket to enter. They can keep them all, toss them all in, or do a mix.
You might ask why we don’t through them all in. Well, on the opposite of it, we can ask for a ticket back if they do something in negative behavior.
We don’t have biting or pushing each other too much anymore of the time. However, there is the occasional shove or disrespectful thing that occurs. And therefore, it costs them a ticket.
Most likely, they can earn that ticket back, but we try to use this mostly as a positive based system to help encourage accountability and the balance of work and fun.
The Magic of the Chore Chart Printable
I hope you enjoy these printables as much as we do. I like not having to nag at them at the list of things they need to do. They have it right there to see. The beauty of this is we can also use the extra icons to add or remove things. And it seems much more peaceful with them checking it off themselves. They have a sense of pride too showing me what they have done.
They might turn into little list-makers like their momma, but hey… what is so wrong with that?
