In the new television series CHUCKY, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos after a vintage ‘Good Guy’ doll turns up at a suburban yard sale. Soon, everyone must grapple with a series of horrifying murders that begin to expose the town’s deep hypocrisies and hidden secrets. Meanwhile, friends and foes from Chucky’s past creep back into his world and threaten to expose the truth behind his mysterious origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Recently, Nightmarish Conjurings took part in the roundtable press junket for CHUCKY and spoke with actors Alyvia Alyn Lind and Björgvin Arnarson, who play Lexy Cross, a vicious bully who has it out for Jake Wheeler (Zackary Arthur), and Devon Evans, a true-crime nut who forms a special connection with Jake. During our chat, we discussed everything from their character’s backgrounds to their first-time experience working with Chucky.

Thank you both for taking the time to speak with me today. To start things, Alyvia do you think that we’re going to learn more about Lexi’s background as the series progresses?

Alyvia Alyn Lind: Lexi starts off, obviously, as this bully, a princess – very self-centered, very narcissistic, very power-hungry. And [as the series progresses] we get to see her take responsibility for her actions. We get to see her kind of realize how much she is hurting Jake and how much she is hurting the people around her. And we get to see when the people that she loves are put in jeopardy, she will do whatever it takes to help them and save them, which we probably would not think at the beginning of the series. It was very, very fun to get to play that arc and I think [creator] Don Mancini did an amazing job at making this character who has no redeemable qualities about her, very redeemable.

Bjorgvin, early on it’s apparent that Devon is very much into true crime. Outside of your character’s obsession, is true crime something you’ve been interested in as well?

Björgvin Arnarson: Devon is this charismatic guy, this cool kid in the school, and knows everyone. He also has this crime podcast and is super into it. I think he kind of gets that because his mom is a detective as well, so he kind of wants to follow in her footsteps. After [playing this character], I kind of got into crime myself, and I really want to roll up one day in one of those long jackets and be like, excuse me, Detective Devon here. I’m going to ask some questions [Laughs].

We can’t end this interview without talking about the man himself! What was it like for you both when you saw Chucky for the first time?

Alyvia Alyn Lind: Personally, my first time seeing the doll we were doing a take on set. We were in the hallway of the school and the scene is Jake holding the doll. And, all of a sudden, I’m doing the scene and I’d never seen the doll move before. So I walk up, I do my line or whatever, and then the doll turned his head to me and starts talking and I had never seen it move before. It was very creepy but so, so cool. After that, it kind of just became second nature watching this little animatronic doll move and talk, but it was still very weird. And I don’t think I ever really got fully used to it [Laughs].

Björgvin Arnarson: And I think that scene was cool cause it was like the puppeteers weren’t there on it so, it was like he just moved his head and started talking. I was like, oh my goodness, they can do that too. They don’t have to be there. Oh my [Laughs].

New episodes of CHUCKY arrive every Tuesday night at 10 pm ET on the SYFY and USA Network. For more on the series, check out our review here.
